Bedford-Stuyvesant also known as Bed-Stuy is one of the most popular places in Brooklyn. Bed-Stuy is well known for the brownstones throughout the neighborhood. Brownstones were built in the early 19th century. Bed-Stuy then became a working middle class community. People migrated from the South and also from some of the Caribbean Islands. Some of the most talented rappers have come from Bed-Stuy including Biggie, Jay-Z Lil’ Kim, Mos Def, Fabolous and Papoose. Singers Lena Horne and Aaliyah are also natives. Bedford Stuyvesant was a predominantly black neighborhood. In the recent years the number of Hispanics and whites has increased. Many are worried, that they will be lose their businesses and homes to the newcomers.
